A Sense of Appreciation

To show appreciation is sometimes an action which we take for granted and occasionally we find people who show their appreciation in different ways.

This week I have really appreciated the respect and understanding parents have offered me at school.

With colds and bugs going around, parent interviews, open days and the general day to day grind, I am running on fumes in desperate need for a top up of fuel. Those kind words of encouragement and appreciation have given me the boost to see the week through. From comments on their children's schooling, kindly asking "how are you?" and an understanding of just how stressful a week like this is.

One parent marched in once all the children had departed, turned the kettle on and made me a coffee at the end of the day. It's these acts of kindness that help everyone, everyday...especially on those tough days.

Time to recharge my batteries ready for Friday.

An Introduction

On this rainy Sunday morning, I have decided to begin blogging again. I've had a niggling feeling for sometime, almost as if all the information and emotions that I have stored in my body are waiting for the emergency exit sign to light up and aid them in finding a way out.

Today, I shall begin.

To give you a little bit of background, I am a Montessori teacher. I have seen my way through university, my first year of teaching and then onwards to train in Italy for my Diploma in Montessori education. I cannot imagine another path for me, yet I reflect and think to myself that things could have been so different if I had taken just one step off the path.

Currently, I am a teacher of 6-12 year olds in a brand new classroom. This brand new classroom was built as an extension to an Early Childhood Centre or Casa as we refer to them in Montessori terms. We opened in September last year and the head count is gradually growing.

At the end of a school day I feel like collapsing into bed! This last year has been utterly exhausting and with this exhaustion comes laziness to sit and reflect on how awesome life can be in and out of school.

Blogging will be an opportunity for me to sit back, smile and ponder the happenings in the classroom. Sometimes the sweetest things happen, but can often be forgotten.

Welcome again, to my ABC's of gratitude.
